Styling your hair may seem simple; however, unless you are confident and understand what you are doing it can end in disaster. Therefore, research is essential to guarantee that you know how to dye your hair and apply the foils without it being a nightmare. If you take the time to study the different techniques, you will be able to create salon quality hair at home.
Bleaching or coloring your hair is something that many women do on a daily basis; however, it can take time to perfect the different techniques. Hair foils are used to ensure that the color is applied to only the area of your hair that you want to color. You can purchase the foils in both rolls and strips, and they can be applied easily.
You need to choose your hair dye carefully and ensure that the color will look good with your skin tone, and natural hair color, if you have highlights. You will also need to decide if the hair dye should be permanent, temporary or semi permanent.
Choosing a semi permanent color is advised if you are dying your hair for the first time.
Gathering all the materials and ensuring that they are close to hand is essential, and allow yourself plenty of time is advised. You must always perform a strand test on your hair, to ensure that you are not allergic to the dye. Applying protection to your scalp, ears, nape and hairline is advised and will protect these areas from the dye.
Drape a towel around your shoulders, and put on your gloves, before you begin to handle the hair dye. Tear the foil strips to three inches wide, and ensure that you have enough foils to complete your hair. Allow more foils if your hair is thick, and you want to apply more color to your hair. Slowly begin to section your hair, into one inch wide layers using a tint brush
Make sure that you begin at the back of your head and work around to the front; you can use clips to keep the sectioned hair secure. Take the first one inch section of hair and divide into sections, making it easier to apply the dye. Using the end of the tint brush, you will need to weave the section of hair to separate the part that you want to color.
You will need to place the foil underneath the section of hair, which needs coloring, separating it from the remaining hair. Slowly brush this hair with the hair dye, ensuring that it is covered completely from your roots to the end. The foil needs to be folded in half, and maybe half again depending on the length of your hair.
This process will need to be repeated all round your head, until all of your hair is colored and in foils. Staggering the foil placements is advised, to receive an even covering of color in your hair. If you are applying both highlights and low lights, you will need to alternate the different colors.
Once your head is completed, you will need to wait for the allocated time, and ensure that you do not leave the color in for too long. Following the instructions on the box is vital, and if unsure less time is better than too much. When the time is finished, you will need to wash the dye from your hair, this may take several washes, and a conditioning treatment is advised.
